Our team in Joliet, IL is looking for a Lead Diesel Technician that will timely and thoroughly complete daily tasks for equipment maintenance and repair.

Starting hourly rate: $36.25 - $38.50

Schedule for the role: Sunday evening through Friday morning 9:30pm to 5:30am

Duties:
  • Properly diagnose, overhaul, adjust and repair all series of truck and trailer equipment including but not limited to the following:
    • Engines (gas and diesel)
    • Transmissions (manual and automatic)
    • Differentials/Power Dividers
    • Electrical components
    • Starters and alternators
    • Brake systems air and hydraulic
    • Cooling systems
    • Fan clutches
    • Suspension
    • Power steering systems
  • Diagnose and repair SCR system.
  • Diagnose, remove, and rebuild and reinstallation of PTO Systems.
  • Trained/Certified, diagnose electrical and mechanical defects, repair, component replacement, evacuation, and charging of Air Conditioning Systems.
  • Remove and install tires.
  • Adjust and repair Engine Electronics (gas and diesel).
  • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance service.
  • Road test vehicles, as necessary.
  • Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units.
  • Identify warrantable repairs and document appropriately.
  • Maintain work area appearance and safety.
  • All duties of Diesel Technician I, Diesel Technician II and Diesel Technician III.
  • Manage the workflow through the Service Department.
  • Supervise Technicians and Fuel Island Attendants.
  • Evaluate situations as they arise and make sound decisions in the absence of the Service Manager.
  • Manage the Fleet Service Operation in a manner that is consistent with the direction of the department.
  • Complete work orders timely and accurately.
  • Ensuring equipment meets planned maintenance compliance.
  • Stay current on all Vector safety videos and/or trainings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
     
To be successful in the role:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least six years related heavy truck maintenance experience required.
  • Specialized training and/or experience in the diagnosis, and repair of Mack using Tech Tool, Freightliner using DDL8, Kenworth using PACCAR / Davie software, Cummins Insight, etc.
  • Be proficient in the use of all tools of the trade (Welding equipment, power tools and shop machinery)
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at times.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, kneel, climb ladders and squat for extended periods.
  • Work outdoors in different weather conditions.
  • Exposure to used cooking oil odors.
