Schedule: Sunday night through Friday morning 9pm to 5:30am 

Starting hourly rate: $28

We are looking for Diesel Technician Level 2 to join our team in Joliet. The Diesel Mechanic will strive to meet or exceed goal times for repairs. Able to work unsupervised for extended periods of time and assist in training technicians in lower job classifications.

Training & Experience:   Technician II employees should possess the following training and experience:
Minimum of four (4) years practical experience or an equivalent combination of related education and experience
• Specialized training and/or experience in the overhaul of major components (i.e., Mack – Cummins - Detroit Diesel Engines, etc.)
• Be proficient in the use of all tools of the trade (Welding equipment, power tools and shop machinery)

Major Function:    

  • Removal and reinstallation of the following:
    • Engines (Gas and Diesel)
    • Transmissions (Manual & Automatic)
    • Differentials/Power Dividers
    • Starters/Alternators
    • Fan Clutches
    • Electrical/Brake/Colling Systems
    • PTO Systems
  • Trained/Certified, component replacement, evacuation, and charging of air condition systems.
  • Adjust and repair Power Steering Systems.  
  • Remove and install tires, and algin chassis.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair Engine Electronics (gas and diesel).
  • Perform scheduled PM services and DOT inspections.
  • Hydraulic hose and component replacement and fabricating hoses.
  • Perform mechanical and general appearance.
  • Reconditioning of equipment for trade ins.
  • Prepare new equipment for delivery.
  • Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units.
  • Identify warrantable repairs and document appropriately.
  • Maintain good housekeeping of shop, floor scrubber and tools.
  • Road test vehicles, as necessary.
  • Complete work orders timely and accurately.
  • Ensuring equipment meets planned maintenance compliance.
  • Stay current on all Vector safety videos and/or trainings. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.




Specific Duties: Technician II Employees perform the following functions with no assistance:
• Perform all levels of preventative maintenance
• Identify and determine parts require for repair of disassembled units
• Identify warrantable repairs and document appropriately
• Maintain work area appearance and safety
• Road test vehicles as necessary
• Performance and prospective duties in a timely and efficient matter
• All duties of lower job classifications.
• Follow all safety rules and procedures.
• Fully participate and support all safety initiatives.
• Think safety and continually scan the work environment; make suggestions for corrections and improvements.
• Other duties as assigned


Qualifications Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least four years related heavy truck maintenance experience required.
  • Specialized training and/or experience in Mack using Tech Tool, Freightliner using DDL, Kenworth using PACCAR / Davie software, Cummins Insight, etc.
  • Be proficient in the use of all tools of the trade (Welding equipment, power tools and shop machinery)
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds at times.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, kneel, climb ladders and squat for extended periods.
  • Work outdoors in different weather conditions.
  • Exposure to used cooking oil odors.
